Who we are

J C Walwyn & Sons Ltd is an independent, family-owned British coffin and casket manufacturer established in 1947. The company was founded by John Charles Walwyn, who began as a funeral director in Ashbourne before expanding into manufacturing to supply solid wood coffins to funeral directors across neighbouring counties.

The introduction of veneered timbers in the early 1960s laid the foundations for the business as it operates today. As demand grew within the funeral services industry, the Walwyn family relocated from their original Station Street premises to a purpose-built factory on Ashbourne Industrial Estate, officially opening in 1974. This move marked a significant step forward in establishing Walwyn as a trusted UK coffin manufacturer.

By 1991, production had exceeded one thousand coffins per week. Continued investment in specialist machinery and the introduction of an in-house veneering plant gave the company full control over quality, finish and consistency. This commitment to manufacturing excellence has ensured that Walwyn remains at the forefront of the British coffin manufacturing industry.

Today, we supply high-quality, UK-made coffins and caskets to funeral directors nationwide across England and Wales. With dependable lead times of three to four working days and expedited delivery available when required, we continue to support independent funeral homes and larger groups with reliable service and consistent craftsmanship.
